A simple but seriously good classic.
Forget basic bread and butter, this loaded ham and cheese toastie is a game-changer. We're using our sliced, Smoked Shoulder Ham and turning it into a legendary feed. It's cheesy, it's hammy, it's a bit fancy with a delicious relish, and it's ridiculously easy to throw together. The perfect answer to "what's for dinner?" when you really can't be bothered cooking.
Ingredients (Per Toastie):
- 100-200g Smoked Shoulder Ham, sliced
- 2 Thick-Cut Sourdough Slices
- Vintage Cheddar Cheese, portioned to your taste
- 1 tbsp Caramelised Onion Chutney
- Dijon Mustard, generous dollop
- Butter
- Optional: Rocket Leaves
- Optional: Fresh Tomato
Method:
- Start by giving your sourdough slices a generous smear of Dijon mustard on one side.
- Next, layer on your thick slices of ham, a good slice (or two, or three!) of cheddar cheese, a spoonful of caramelised onion chutney (or jam). If you're feeling a bit fancy, add some rocket or fresh tomato slices here too.
- Pop the other slice of bread on top to create your toastie masterpiece.
- Generously butter the outside of both slices of bread. This is the secret to that perfect golden, crispy crunch!
- Place your toastie in a toastie maker (jaffle iron) or a hot, non-stick frypan over medium heat.
- Toast until both sides are a deep, golden brown and the cheese is beautifully melted and oozy. If using a frypan, you might need to press down gently with a spatula and flip it carefully.
- Slice in half (diagonally, of course!) and dig in while it's hot and cheesy!
